Lichess Disclaimer

It is NOT:

The short version

Lichess officially supports bot accounts. They have a dedicated API (/api/bot/*) and BOT-prefix titles for them. Running a bot on a BOT account is 100% legal and encouraged by Lichess.

Running a bot on a human account is cheating. It will get you banned — permanently. We take no responsibility for that.

What you must do before buying

  1. Register a new Lichess account (or have an existing account with zero rated games).
  2. Upgrade it to a BOT account using Lichess's official API endpoint: POST https://lichess.org/api/bot/account/upgrade.
This action is irreversible. You cannot convert a BOT account back into a regular account.
  3. Generate an API token at lichess.org/account/oauth/token with the "Bot: Play games" scope.
  4. Use that token in Lichess Bot Controller.

If you don't have a BOT account, do not buy this software. It will refuse to operate against human opponents on a human account anyway, and Lichess will ban the account on the first game.

What happens if I use it on a human account?

  1. Lichess anti-cheat will detect it quickly (usually within 5–50 games).
  2. Your Lichess account will be permanently closed. No appeal.
  3. We will not refund you.
  4. You agreed to this when you bought the software.

What Lichess thinks of bots

Lichess fully supports bots as a feature. You can play against 150+ registered bots right now. They participate in dedicated bot tournaments. Some have 3200+ Elo ratings. Nobody gets banned for this.

You can be one of them.
